Shichimi, Togarashi, Japanese 7 spice

Is this all the same thing? and where can I find in Calgary. My hunt of Asian markets has been fruitless.

  1. Have you tried Arirang?

    1. Just checked the pantry and we have some. Didn't know it was the same thing til I checked the ingredients and matched them against an online description. Don't read Japanese, so I didn't know the proper name. Bought it at the Asian Market in the mall at 16th and Centre St. Arirang would also have it as it likely is a staple, since it is always at ramen restaurants.

      1. Silk Road Spices in Inglewood & the Calgary Farmers Market has Togarashi.

        1. Not the same, at least not in Japan. Togarashi is chile pepper. Shichimi (also known as shichimi togarashi) is a spice mix of seven spices which includes chile pepper.
