Fandango

Someone posted a message asking about restaurants on the Grand Prix weekend, and a reply was posted recommending Fandango, on St. Andre at Roy in the Plateau. I, too, was in town for the race, and my friends and I tried Fandango on Saturday night. It was terrific. The margaritas especiales were superb, with a subtle salt rim that was no more than one grain in width. My appetizer was a queso fundido with chorizo sausage and wonderful, fresh tortillas. The main dish was pan-seared filet of skate, with sliced garlic, dried poblano peppers, and a sauce that I think had a tequila base (or maybe that was the margarita!). The fish was served with fiddleheads (a great Canadian touch: Go NAFTA!) and just-wilted spinach. It was memorable. My dessert was rice pudding with rum-soaked raisins and Mexican cinnamon. The price all-in, with 3 courses each, 3 margaritas, 3 coffees, and a bottle of wine was under C$200 for 3 people. I will definitely go back for more!
