wonder if you're familiar with these 2 things

anyone tried any of the new flavors of Oreo's?
(we have not but am curiously intrigued by the speckled ones)
anyone else see the commercial during we think the SuperBowl about the new Reese's peanut butter cups that contain Butterfingers inside?
(we've looked countless places where the obvious allure is on chocolate bars but so far, not seen them)

    1. I was in the store last week to get regular Oreo's for my DF and this guy started telling me about the new Birthday Cake Oreo's. I bought a package and ate half in two days. So good. I didn't see those other ones, but then, I didn't look. Will have to check them out.

I saw those "birthday cake" ones in China a few years ago. That's not exactly a specific description of a flavor, unless they meant to add a subscript of "regardless of what it says above, chemicals reside here."

In other news, did you try the limited edition candy corn Oreos?

      2. Tried the Lemon Oreos last week. Don't know what I was expecting but was disappointed. Too sweet and rather flat overall.

        1. I've had the cookie dough and peanut butter. The cookie dough is a little too sweet, too confectionery sugary for my taste, I do like the peanut butter. Nothing just beats an original oreo....well besides an original double stuffed!

          1. I think you're trying to remember a commercial for Butterfinger Peanut Butter Cups (Nestle).

What have you been doing that both affects your short term memory and makes you want candy?

knuckle my short term memory hasn't been affected by anything and I've done nothing that makes me want candy.

              1. re: knucklesandwich

I saw the commercial too and didn't remember anything beyond someone was trying to copy Reeses. They should have had a catchy song maybe, or offered free samples ;-)

              2. I try to resist buying Oreo's. I have an addiction to the Oreo's that are dipped in white chocolate. Luckily for me they only appear around holidays. I have no boundaries with them, the original Oreo's or the vanilla ones. I am shopping @ Safeway tomorrow and I know I will be on the cookie aisle now.

they're ridiculously good. OH isn't allowed to buy them because i can't eat them anymore.

                2. Wally world was sampling Oreos today. I tried the Choclate Mint ones which were just OK...depends on how much your like this combo. They are as you would imagine an oreo with green frosting to be. And I tried the Rice Krispy Treat Oreos. Those were delicous! The filling has bits of krisps and the taste is very reminiscent of Rice Krispy Treats. Well, maybe not the ones you make at home with real butter but the ones that are pre-made. I mean, oreo frosting is made with oil so they are as expected. I really enjoyed the one I tried.

                  1. I've given up candy bars in general, but all the recent new flavors do intrigue me. I did the Snickers with peanut butter (I think?)a few months back but that was just a one time deal. I wonder if Nestles and the like are losing a lot of sales to the higher end stuff, that they have to make up so many new types?

I also saw that ad during Superbowl and have sort of had my eye out, interested to see what everyone here says. Maybe I can hopefully skip it. But I do love Butterfinger. I also saw an ad (in the doctor's waiting room of all places!) for Nutraegous which I thought was discontinued, if I can find them I know I'll be a happy camper!

our DD loves mint&chocolate flavors together. we don't but anyway-when we were making the Oreo turkeys she mentioned someone giving her a new flavor Oreo being a minty filling flavor. she didn't like it.

coll-I love butter fingers too- they remind me of 5th Ave which are magnificent.

                      1. re: iL Divo

I know, when I buy the assorted bags for Halloween I always eat all the Butterfingers way before the kids come around.

I used to be partial to Pay Days myself, but I'm sure those are long gone. Not sure I ever tried a 5th Ave although I remember them well. Heck, what am I saying, I must have tried every candy bar in the world at some point! Hence my wading back into the candy bar world, what with all these new flavors. No stone can be left unturned!

                        1. re: coll

coll here in California Pay Days are no where near gone.
especially at gas stations, they're always there right next to the 5th Avenue and Butterfingers. :)))
at the kids today for the day and he needed a few things so I went to his Rite Aid and then next door to his neighborhood market. neither had the Nestles butterfinger/peanut butter cups in them, boy I was sad

                          1. re: iL Divo

Sounds like a candy section that should have my name emblazoned on it. Pay Days and 5th Aves sound like an old fashioned candy shop. And if I saw a Zero bar, watch ou!

I am only looking when I am on line for these new items and so far I have been lucky (as in, not seeing them anywhere).

                            1. re: coll

I live in North Carolina and there are Zero bars in almost every gas station. Pay Day, 5th Avenue and Zero are all owned by Hershey and they are still on the market. (I worked in the candy industry for decades.)

                              1. re: Springhaze2

I'm going to have to open my eyeballs a little more in the near future, I guess!

                                1. re: Springhaze2

Spring, you're one lucky person. I'd have a real problem working with candy, none'd get sold, I'd eat it all.

                                  1. re: iL Divo

I saw them all today at the front counter at CVS! Pay Day, Fifth Ave, and the Butterfinger cups. I usually only go to the pharmacy area, which has the most boring selection (luckily).

Resisted buying any though, due to an overabundance of Trader Joe dark choc PB cups, I am amazed at my fortitude.

oh I'm so jealous. you found them! you really really found them

I'm still a seeker but not yet a finder

                                      1. re: iL Divo

Wonder if all CVS have the same candy? They were at the front register. Now that they won't be selling cigarettes, they'll have enough space for everything.

                      2. My SO has denied me forever of these tasty treats.....

Ah, I wouldn't mind a little encouragement on that front, but alas. I'm my own worst critic.

                        1. OH insisted on purchasing the Butterfinger cups which are "absolutely horrible warm, and okay, not so bad, when cold." So that you have the relevant background info upon which to judge his assessment, his favorite candy bars/ candy include Baby Ruth, Snickers, Dots, and Werther's Chewy Caramels.

Birthday Cake Oreos - no different just little bits of sprinkles in the frosting.. wouldn't pay extra for them

Marshmallow Krispie Treats Oreos - golden oreo, with little bits of crushed rice krispies in the filling. no improvement.

Cookie Dough Oreos - just a brown sugar based filling? doesn't taste like cookie dough…

                          Lemon - we'll pass thanks :)

oh my••• you've done your research on these I suspect :)

                          2. Haven't tried the Oreos (but they sure do look good), but have tried:
                            1. Butterfinger Cups - good reviews from the kids!
                            2. Birthday Cake M&Ms - filling is too sweet. The peanut butter ones are still my favs.
                            3. Mega M&Ms - These are slightly smaller than a quarter and surprisingly "flat" (not rounded like the PB ones). They're good, but again, not as good as the regular M&Ms. Something about the size/chocolate/coating ratio isn't as good.

                              1. spotted the Butterfinger peanut butter cups at the "impulse candy display" at Target while waiting in the checkout line.
Being a Butterfinger fan, I had to buy one. I thought it was quite tasty.

I've yet to dismantle the pkg of even 1 of the 5. not sure what I'm waiting for-impulse perhaps

not really a Target shopper so wouldn't have thought of that-
                                  glad you did :)

                                2. .....look what I found.....
                                  YEAH! search over......
                                  yah, I'm buying all 5
