Bagels and Markets

We will be in Montreal for a quick visit this weekend (too quick!). We'll have about two hours on Sunday morning to hit either Jean Talon or Atwater and load up on goodies. We go to Montreal pretty often and, surprisingly, I have yet to try Montreal bagels. Can anyone recommend a good bagel place near either of those markets, so we could squeeze in a visit? I'm normally not a big bagel fan, but I really want to see what all the fuss is about!

The two main bagel haunts are close together: Fairmont and St. Viateur, named for the streets where they are located. They are about mid-way between the two markets, but it's not a long journey. The Montreal Gazette picked St. Viateur as best. Stop by Schwartz's (on St. Laurent; not far from bagels) for lunch, or if you are in early, go to Beauty's on St. Urbain for breakfast, and order a Mish-Mash Omelette with a bagel on the side.

Hoping to stop in at St. Viatur. Thanks!

There's an indoor market on Ste. Catherine... Marche Fabourge, I think. The bagel bakery there is pretty good too.
