Oahu good eats for family of 8

Coming back to Oahu after a 2 year hiatus. This will be a family trip. Looking for good eats on Kapolei side of island as well as in town. Would appreciate some ideas on new places that have popped up in the last 2 years. Thinking about Monkeypod and Lucky Belly so far. Also, looking for one nice dinner (maybe La Mer) Thanks.

  1. Kapolei Town (past two years):

    Thai Lao - Thai food
    Le Nonne - Italian/Tuscany cuisine
    El Mariachi - Mexican
    Ruby's Restaurant
    Brick Oven Pizza
Chun Wah Kam - Chinese take out/buffet
    Denny's
Down to Earth - organic take outs
    Kua aina - burger house
    Aloha Salad
    Panda Chinese take out
...and several Japanese noodle houses in Kapolei

    These to name a few...

    1. In addition - in Ko Olina Resort area:

Aulani Hotel - several restaurants and shacks on the beach. Also several restaurants in the village shopping center... Hawaiian/local barbeque, Monkey Pod, Just tacos. In some of the time share resorts (Beach Villas at Ko Olina etc) they have beach restaurants open for public as well. Many choices if you stay at this side of Oahu.

Thanks for the tips. We are staying at Aulani but it seems like everything is kinda expensive there and do not want to break the family bank. Will probably try Monkey Pod since I heard you can walk to it from Aulani.

Yes Monkeypod is walking distance to Aulani. My parents have eaten there several times and like it. They said it gets very busy at dinner.

      2. It's been over a year but we stayed at Ko Olina and reported on some restaurants on that side http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/8695...

We weren't impressed with any of the venues at Aulani. Went to Thai Lao twice. The Roys there was good for dinner, not as good for lunch. Monkeypod wasn't open at the time. There's a Yuzu out there too now. There are no restaurants at Beach Villas (which is a condo complex not a timeshare), only a poolside bar. There are a couple of restaurants at the Marriott timeshare, neither of which is worthwhile. We also ate at Lucky Belly and La Mer on the same trip.

Thank you...will have to try Thai Lao.

        2. Great questions...we are going in June and I have Monkey pod on my list (loved the one in wailea), LB too. What I remember from Monkeypod are the great pies and a brussel sprout sandwich with mustard.
On my list I also have :
          Michel's
          Le Bistro
          Hiroshi
          Chef Mavro
          Alan Wong
          La Mer
Would like to pick one for a nice dinner..willing to drive from Ko Olina. Coming from CA so husband would love a place that has a nice seared foie preparation.

I've been to the latter 4 on your list and had an excellent seared foie at Alan Wong last time.

SOoo if you were to pick one for overall dining perfection???? I made an excel spreadsheet with all the URLs and we will be consulting the menus.
We will def try Roy's since it is an easy walk.
BTW...your past post is very helpful! Thank you

I'd have to go with Wong or Mavro as my top picks.

Thank you..if I show my husband the foie pic he may die of anticipation till we get there. One night we are leaving the kids behind so that is why I want one special place. The rest can be more casual, although my kids are very adventurous CH eaters.. pho, ramen, thai etc..

Your kids might like The Pig & The Lady then. They're at farmers markets and have a brick and mortar location now.

Yes thank you!!! My sons favorite food is pho and my daughters favorite sandwich is banh mi..this looks quite creative
