Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach, NC restaurants

I'm a visitor from Durham and want some recommendations about good restaurants in Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach. Last night I went to Catch and was very disappointed. Here's the review I posted on TripAdvisor:

"My partner and I came here on the recommendation of a work colleague while on a short trip to Wrightsville Beach. The appetizers (sweet potato salad and Thai pork salad) were excellent, and we were prepared for superb entrees. However, after a very long wait, what was delivered was quite disappointing. My grouper with mashed potatoes was bland and was a very small portion for $32. My partner's dish, however, was simply not good. The snapper was so tough that it had to be cut with a knife, and the accompanying black beans and rice were tasteless. We did mention our dissatisfaction to our server, Christina, and she expressed appropriate regret and summoned the manager. Unfortunately, the manager was obviously not interested in hearing our feedback; she didn't ask us any questions about the food but instead gave a short speech apologizing for the situation, said that the snapper would be removed from our bill, and offered us a free dessert, either chocolate creme brulee or coconut cake. We opted for the former but were quite astonished when only one was brought to the table with an extra spoon for sharing! The creme brulee was flavorful but not really the right consistency. In any event, the whole experience left a bad taste in our mouths. We will not be back on subsequent visits to the beach."

Does anyone have any better ideas?

  1. Glad we passed on Catch. Here's my report from a couple weeks ago:

    1. Try Rx, Pembroke Jones, Circa 1922 and Caprice Bistro in Wilmington and 22 North in WB.

      1. Were you staying in Wrightsville or Wlimington? When I go I stay in Wrightsville and eat in Wrightsville. There are plenty of good restaurants to eat at there.

I've never heard ot Catch - will have to ask my good friend who has a beautiful townhouse there. She and her hubbie go in to Wilmington but when she's there with her good friends she'd rather stick to the beach -

        1. I've had a couple of outstanding meals there, a couple that were pretty bland, and a few in between. I wish he'd stop playing it safe with the fried and the meat-and-starch items and go completely creative, he's an excellent chef. We still go now and then, but I prefer his Vietnamese place downtown in the old Catch location by quite a bit.

          1. It's anything but fancy - and it's not downtown - but Casey's Buffet is not to be missed. The Casey family cooks up a huge selection of the best southern/soul food I've ever had - it's in my top three of restaurants anywhere I've ever eaten.
