Dinner/Late lunch near Town Hall Theater

  • 7

Looking for place for dinner or possibly late lunch near the Town Hall Theater on 43W street. The show starts at 5:45pm so I think pre theater menus are out. Thinking of spending $75.00 per person. Open to any type of food and would probably prefer a more casual place where we won't have to dress up but top notch food is the most important. Also any hole in the wall places for cheap meals in that area would be a plus. I spend lots of time in the city but not usually in the midtown/Times Square area.

  1. Many of the nicer places don't serve between 3-5pm so your request is a little difficult to not impossible.

Toloache or Bar Room at the Modern would work. Both serve all day long, I believe.

On the cheaper end of the spectrum, Don Antonio, Szechuan Gourmet, Totto Ramen, Larb Ubol, Pure Thai also all serve continuously all day long.

Szechuan Gourmet is probably the closest to Town Hall. The rest are a short walk.

    1. I'd suggest Kellari Taverna - it's only a block away, and they serve brunch until 4:00 when then switch over to dinner. It's not going to change your world, but it's pretty good and comfortable. They say they are "smart casual".

If you don't mind the walk, I'd second Toloache-I prefer it at off hours when it's a little quieter.

      1. Piccolo cafe is a hole in the wall, good to grab something to go or you make get lucky with the few seats-they have omelettes with a side salad all day, good soups and interesting sandwich combos. The w40th and 8th ave location doesn't have dinner though.

Thanks for the replies. Keep 'em coming. I am also thinking maybe after the show for dinner since it will be over before 8pm. Also willing to travel by subway so bring on any and all ideas please.

If you're thinking about regular dinner outside of Midtown... then your options open up, a lot.

            What neighborhood?

What cuisines? What kind of food are you thinking of?

What date / day of the week is this for?

Same price range, $75pp before tax, tip, alcohol?

Manhattan-Anywhere really from 110th and Broadway to the LES. Like any kind of cuisine. Funky-out of the ordinary is good. Saturday 4/5/2014. The show at Town Hall begins at 5:45pm. Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor. Can't imagine that it will go pass 8pm. Would like to stick to the $75.00 before tip, tax, alcohol.
Butter, Momofuku, The Nomad are on my bucket list. Any thoughts on these?
Don't really want to dress up for dinner.

The NoMad I personally would dress up a little for since it's a fairly nice place.

Momofuku -- which one? My favorite is Ssam Bar. Was there last night. Totally casual.
