  1. I do enjoy the turkey chili at Bare Back Grill. Also the burger and beer special at Club 710. I would like to find a few more refined places. I'm kind of in a HH slump.

Somehow sledge, you don't seem like a PB kind of guy.

      1. re: Beach Chick

        why?

        1. re: cstr

I see you as a refined man, late 50's, upper middle class, Lincoln or 7 series Bimmer kind of guy that drinks single malt scotch, plays the market, fiscal conservative and goes on vacation to Hawaii, with his family..

Not the SAE frat party boy, swigging $2 Bud Lights at happy hour on Garnet and eating pedestrian hamburgers with bad buns..slathered with Miracle Whip..

          I could be totally wrong.

          1. re: Beach Chick

For a SD native, I'm surprised that your PB stereotype is so limited. There are also are the PB locals - the families that own the houses in the blocks north of Garnet, walk down to the beach on most days, and in general support a good number of the restaurants and bars during the day and early evening but disappear to their homes at night when the freaks come out.

            1. re: Beach Chick

              Miracle Whip is disgusting.

              1. re: Dagney

                No argument here - ick.

      2. We've been hitting The Joint in OB lately for HH, particularly on Tuesdays. It's pretty much a sushi and tapas HH and on Tuesdays they have pints of Sculpin for $2.50 all day. They are beer and wine only, but have a couple of wines for $5ish at HH which, i think, runs from 2-6 pm (but I would call first to verify what days). It's also a really good HH if you need to hit a farmers market (wednesday) and want to booze a little before you squeeze some produce.

Salmon Nigiri - 2 pc. for $3 at HH - the last three times we have been, it has been super fresh.

            The Wank...shoots and scores..
Love me Red Tracton's..didn't know they had a happy hour...must get real indigo in there with the blue hairs.

            1. re: wanker

Didn't know about Red's happy hour either, But right next door, the Fish Market also has a nice happy hour. Oysters for $1.50! Don't know if the FM in SD has one as well.

              1. re: littlestevie

I'm all over Reds and didn't know about Fish either..I only do the O bar, which sounds perfect for lunch..

Bowl of chowdah, Duckett's bucket, cheesy bread and Anchor draft..yeah baby!

                1. re: Beach Chick

The happy hour is just in the oyster bar. Now that they remodeled it (about a year ago) a lot more seating.

                  1. re: littlestevie

The Oyster Bar at the Fish Market is terrific, but it's very difficult to get a seat. The Oyster Bar seems to have a cast of regulars who monopolize them. However, you can sit in the gegular bar and order from the menu, but it's just not same.

            2. Happy Hour?

Never get there, cooking for the Missus.

I'm happy when she gets home, though!

It's truly my privilege, and it's my sincere hope she never comes to her senses.

Let's hope Mrs. Fakey doesn't come to her senses!
                    But you're Fakey...you da man!

                2. re: Fake Name

You could really 'Fake' her out and surprise Ms FN with a Happy Hour nosh.

                  1. re: cstr

                    True.

But MrsName rarely gets home before 7 and very much likes being here. I make certain of it.

One key to a happy marriage is to make damn sure one's spouse prefers to come home than to Happy Hour.

All wives have their husbands well trained.

It's on page one of the manual, next to the ball buster contraption!
