Lately, I've loved the drinks (and service) at Wallflower, though it's a bit further north.

Blue Ribbon Downing Street is only a few blocks.

I just read about Wallflower and thought it sounded like a perfect place to grab drinks before a friend's birthday in the WV... what do you enjoy there?

The Ambroise #2 is fabulous, but all my friends drinks that I have sipped on were interesting and tasty.

Louro, perhaps? Excellent cocktails. Their happy hour starts at 5:30pm.

The entire Gabe Stulman group of restaurants (Joseph Leonard, Fedora, Chez Sardine) tend to do pretty solid cocktails, actually (one head bartender for all his restos).

Also nearby is Empellon Taqueria and I like the drinks at the Empellons as well. I might also keep Whitehall as an option. Or the newly opened Wallflower (ex-Daniel bartender).

I was pleasantly surprised by how much we liked Whitehall. First time we went because it was convenient for killing some time and wound up really enjoying their cocktails and food.

I had the Concord Collins at Louro last week. It was wonderful. The house-made shrub was nicely tart and the piney notes in the background really set off the grape flavor.

Sorry to hijack this thread... but am looking for something very similar, though must be close walking distance to Thompson/Bleecker. Any ideas welcome.

Pegu Club is usually pretty quiet around 5pm. I love going there early. West Broadway and Houston, 2 blocks away.
