Melanie Wong Feb 26, 2014 09:06 AM

In another thread about Osaka-ya, "rmarisco" recommends at stop here: "...also, be sure to try the taiwanese grocery store next door - excellent 5 spice beef and shrimp sticks, along with soup dumplings!"

I had peeked at it yesterday and thought I'd start a new discussion to encourage more intell about the spot.

For diversity of food choices, Koreana Plaza in
Rancho Cordova off of Zinfandel on HW50
is hard to beat in the Sacramento area.

ok so i'm the one who recommended taiwan best mart... i've gotten several items from them. one thing i like about them: they tell you HOW to cook the frozen foods. they put the directions on their website - brilliant! now i can enjoy yet another cultural food experience!

does anyone have a favorite from them? my family loves the 5 spice beef especially - with or without rice or rice noodles on the side, and dipping sauce. (getting hungry..)

ps - can i just say how wonderful sacramento is for food these days? from localvore to world cuisines - sacramento is really starting to make great food. HURRAH!

Thanks for mentioning this spot. I was so pressed for time to get on the road before 3pm, I had to walk right by it and not go inside.

Yes, I'm really happy to see what's happening foodwise in Sacramento now. I used to dread going there, and now I can't fit in all the places I want to try.

Please keep posting about your finds. There should be more Sacto talk on this board.

No kidding! After all, San Diego ended up having its own board.

Also note that there is a tiny Chinese grocery a block away on 11th and about T that has a tiny kitchen in the back making dim sum for takeout. The prices are amazingly low.

If you're talking about the roast duck place, it closed down a year ago I think.

I don't recall them ever selling roast duck, but have been going there for over 40 years, though they have gone through a number of owners. It is on 11th just south of T street.

Yup, its the store that has roast duck, pork, and etc t & 11th. The one next to the barbar shop.

Unless you're talking about lam kwong which is on the other block across the street.

Too bad about the store. I think the Chinese food store just up near Broadway, also on 11th but on the other side of the freeway, must have given them too much competition. Still, I will miss their take-out dim sum whenever I visit Sacramento.

No that was not the reason at all.

What do you think the reason was?
