Lunch in W. Hollywood

susans Feb 25, 2014 12:12 AM

My mother has moved to assisted living at Fairfax and Santa Monica, so I'll be going there frequently. In addition to Farmers Market, where should we have lunch?

She is a moderate eater who likes most cuisines, but not sushi or Indian. I have to travel back to Long Beach after I visit, so don't want to drive very far to a restaurant.

Plan Check on Fairfax is good. Really good burgers, but also nice salads and sandwiches.

Opened this year, or end of last.

I cannot get enough of their butter lettuce salad with the pickled eggs. Soooooo good.

The Larder on La Cienega has great sandwiches. Simplethings Sandwich and Pie Shop on Third Street has wonderful lunch. Kitchen 24 on Santa Monica Blvd is always good. Joan's on Third may be interesting for your mom. Loud and crowded but she might enjoy the people watching. Magnolia Bakery across the street has amazing dessert. Try their banana pudding. These are not within walking distance but not too far.
      Enjoy your mom!

+1 for The Larder. Great soup, salads and sandwiches. Easy free parking next door at Trader Joes.

Well, Kung Pao Bistro has some quite tasty Chinese food, and it is located in front of the Whole Foods Market at that intersection. Ask for Frank if you have specific dietary necessities, and tell him Carter sent you.

There is a new Mendocino Farms next to Trader Joes on Fairfax. Also a thumbs up for Golden State and Plan Check with a larger menu from the West LA location.
