I don't know what you consider a) midpriced or b) centrally located, but I would heartily vouch for the "character and charm" of the Auberge de Vieux Port, which is right on the river in Old Montreal. Rooms run about $100 U.S.. The service is impeccable, the rooms are lovely, with exposed brick and beams, and thoughtful little touches like wine glasses in your room and classical music playing softly on the stereo when you enter. An absolutely delicious breakfast is included in the room rate (the best muffins I have ever had) and the restaurant in the hotel was excellent (I posted on montreal a while back)
