mangeons a Montreal

Just returned from a weekend trip to Montreal to see "Picasso Erotique." A pricey but exquisite lunch on the terrace at Il Cortile (conveniently located just a few steps from the Musee de Beaux Arts) -- the slow-cooked, soft, sticky, and near-burnt slivers of garlic in the base of the tomato sauce lending the pastas a deep, deep flavour. A superb dinner at Au Petit Extra -- as close as you'll get to an authentic French bistro (or so it would seem -- I've never actually been to an authentic French bistro, but the food and atmosphere at Au Petit are superb, happily lacking the pretension of the much-hyped L'Express). Also took a recommendation from someone here to visit the marche Jean Talon and have lunch at the back of the Hamel Frommagerie -- what a wonderful afternoon. And everything they say about fries & and a draft at Frite Alors! is true.
