French Onion Soup

Everybody loves French onion soup. Which GTA restaurant serves your favorite? And what makes it special?

  1. can't speak to a restaurant but the best I ever had came from the Nero Wolfe Cookbook and has no cheese to get in the way. As everyone knows the key is slow cooking the red onions and having a first rate beef stock. This version, though, adds dry vermouth and a hefty wallop of black pepper. It is the best I have ever had.

    1. If you do a search, there are some previous threads on this topic. I belive Barberian's and Jacques Bistro du Parc are mentioned.

      1. Le Select Bistro: Nice, dark rich broth. I ask for 'half cheese' though, and it's still plenty.

        1. Tom Jones, perfect ratio broth onion bread and cheese, Amazing!!!!

          1. Soupe à l’oignon de Meursault
Onion soup, recipe inherited from Chef Adrien’s grandmother

Hopefully, I will be trying the above tonight at the new Leaside Bistro 'La Croisee' on Bayview close to Rahier.
BTW, Dijon Chef Adrien worked under the Seafood Master Divellec at his Paris Michelin 2* Le Divellec. Feeling good!!

            Will report back!
