ono seafood closed for renovation / times has fresh poke

onos closed until mid march. sold out today; it was going to be my first time, closed starting tomorrow.

times liliha has fresh (~$16/lb) and previously frozen (~$11/lb )poke, wide selection. sampled different varieties, frozen seems almost as good as the fresh.

  1. Thanks for the heads up. Sorry you got there and they were already sold out!

    1. There are a number of threads on poke. I don't know as I've ever seen times market listed. Most foodland stores have good poke as well

I kind of think it depends on which Times Supermarket you're at. On the windward side, Foodland seems to have a lot more poke patrons than Times.

      1. i believe Ono Seafood is regularly at the kaka'ako farmers markets on saturday mornings, if you want your fix. Always delicious. I think their 'hawaiian style' is as good as it gets. Plus, their tako seems to be more tender and juicy than anyone else's. interested to see the remodel, thx for the (unfortunate for you) tip.

damn, we're always hiking on sat mornings.

        2. I hope they add more seating. When I was there in September, the lone table was flled by a single group, so I took my poke and ate it at an abandoned picnic table at the side of Kapahulu (I think it was leftover from a food truck pod that used to be there). I probably looked a little strange, but the poke was so good, I didn't care!

          1. are they open back up? seems like people have added reviews to yelp over the last week like they are open

sign said they would be closed til march 13 or 15, i forget which.

              1. just got to try ono seafood's poke.

you guys are right about the quality of the fish, quite noticable and welcome.

a little heavy on the seasoning, but would have been fine with rice. i don't know if they still toss everything together right after your order - if they do, you could tell them to go easy on it. but with rice, ono as is.

$18/lb for ahi, less for tako. i probably won't be back save for special occasions due to location and price, and times is right down the st. a true gem, though.
