I opened a jar of Ragu mozarella alfredo sauce and it was watery/oily at the top. Safe or unsafe to eat?
I think it is fine, but has separated from sitting for a long time. Stir it up and give it a little taste. If there are no off-flavors, then use the jar.
Thank you. I cooked it for a long time just to be sure and ate it. There was a watery ring around it after I cooked it but I think it's ok.
The watery ring around it was probably from overcooking a cheese sauce. You may want to just gently simmer for a few minutes next time.
Always shake jars of sauce well before you open them so that they are well mixed.
