Where To Find Hackleback

  • 4

Dear Chowpersons,

Looking for "caviar". And while I'd love to think I'm baller enough to mail-order Osetra, I'm not...and so, I am looking for very good domestic Hackleback (no trout or salmon or flying fish, etc), preferably very local...like WI, MI, or MN (but ultimately I do not care) locally...where I can try it first.

I thought to try Surdyk's, but I know I'd have noticed it there...drawing a total blank.

Any ideas welcome, otherwise we'll have a visiting relative for the party bring it with him from a place I know they have it.

Thanks to all!

  1. At the risk of sounding like a one-string banjo, perhaps a call to Coastal?

    1. Did you try Kramarczuks in the deli?

      1. I remember seeing caviar at Haskell's downtown, but I'm not sure if it was Hackleback. But when Haskell's has food items, it is usually of a higher quality so maybe it fits your bill.

Otherwise, Coastal is likely your best bet or some of the other Russian deli's around town. You can probably dredge up a list from this board as I'm not as familiar with them.
