Unite - Noble Squre
I was in town lately visiting friends and they took me to Unite in Noble Square (Chicago Avenue). What a great neighborhood place this is (though if I lived in Chicago I’d be willing to travel a bit to get there as well).
The space is really warm and cozy, while being open at the same time. We started with cocktails in their lounge area in the front of the area. I was drinking bourbon, but my friends enjoyed the house cocktails very much. They seemed to be made with care, without being too precious. The beer and wine selection looked well curated as well. When we were seated, our table was opposite the bar. While busy, it was refreshing to see that much of the bar was occupied by drinkers, rather than being completely set up for diners so there was no way to get a cocktail.
The menu was fairly diverse, with a slight emphasis on beef. My Painted Hills NY Strip was well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The steak was easily as good as at any steakhouse in town. Roasted Hen of the Woods were an excellent accompaniment for the steak. Despite the grill and beef focus, they have a wide array of veggie dishes and salads available. One dining companion enjoyed the lentil salad very much. Another had the French dip, which we were told was new to the menu. The beef was carved in house, and looked mouthwatering.
I really enjoy trying these neighborhood places during my time in Chicago, and Unite was a standout. I told my friends they didn’t have to take me somewhere new the next time I visit. Unite will be just fine.
