2 Dinners in Scottsdale

amyfink Feb 18, 2014 03:02 PM

I'll be in Scottsdale with 3 girlfriends (late 30's) in mid-March. Looking to make reservations for 2 dinners from the below list. Any recommendations?
- AZ88
- Olive & Ivy (went here last year and enjoyed it)
- The Mission
- Virtu
- FnB
- Citizen Public House

My experience is limited, and not recent, but, I would exclude AZ88 and Olive & Ivy. FWIW, I'd probably pick CPH and The Mission, but, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the rest.

I was surprised to read that the OP thought about making reservations at AZ88. It is such a casual drop-in type spot that it would never have occurred to me to make a reservation. Go for one of their martinis but you have better food options elsewhere. The Mission is a short walk away.

OP states that she has already been to Olive & Ivy and enjoyed it. I'm too old for that place, so maybe my recs are headed in the wrong direction.

AZ88 was on the list b/c it was recommended to me from a friend who used to live in Scottsdale, but sounds like our reservations should be between The Mission, FnB, Virtu or Citizen Public House.

AZ88 is where you go when you really want to overpay for barely passable sandwiches and salads because, wow, it's all hip and cool and mod and stuff.

Haven't been to Virtu yet. The Mission is solid. CPH started strong, but has been really hit and miss lately.

FnB is a stellar local gem, the chef made the James Beard semifinal list today, and she deserves to be at least a finalist, if not the winner. Order vegetables. Lots of them. And wonder why anybody goes to a place like Olive and Ivy when they can go here.

            Perfect description of AZ88!

Virtu is the one not to miss! It is far and away the best food but not much on the "action."

Depending on what you really want - good food or good action.

AZ88 and Olive & Ivy are about the action and the best one can say about the food is mediocre at O & I.

If it is the food you seek then Virtu and FnB.

Mission and CPH solid food and some action.

From AZ88's website: "We do not take reservations."

As Sherri suggests, it's more of a casual drop-in place.

Staying 5 days at Four Seasons Scottsdale and has anyone dined at their restaurants?
