Tuscaloosa Retail Seafood Market?

I'll be moving to the Tuscaloosa area soon, and I am hoping to find a local retail fish market that gets high quality fresh fish and shrimp regularly (at least several times a week) from the Gulf. Is there one?

My guess is that there'd have to be some place like that in Birmingham, but Tuscaloosa sure would be more convenient.

  1. At the moment, nothing of the sort locally, though Sexton's in Birmingham is really good. Could change, and there is a good shrimp vendor at the farmer's market most Saturdays.

      Thank you for the recommendations.

      Couple questions:

I read somewhere that a Steamers Fish Market had opened a few years ago in Tuscaloosa with the idea of purveying gulf fish and shrimp. What came of that?

Also: Speaking of farmers markets, I'd appreciate recommendations there as well (specific days and locations).

You might be right about Steamers, it looked chain-ish to me as a restaurant (though popular) and I have not looked to see what it offered as a possible first market. The main farmer's market is held downtown across from the library on Jack Warner Parkway, Saturday mornings draws the most people, also open Tuesday mornings. Thursday afternoons in spring and summer there is also a market on campus on Hackberry.
