Is Anyone else on Pinterest? Let's follow each other!

Hey guys, I would love to follow some other CH users on Pinterest, if you don't feel comfy posting the link feel free to PM me ( if that's even possible on here lol, I"m not sure). Anyway, here is my link: I have lots of things pinned including many things that I've pinned from other sources, not just repinned, so you should find some recipes that you're interested in :) I pin frequently but don't have many followers and I wish I had more because I love to share recipes that I've found and amazing recipes that I've tried and have had success with!

          1. I hope other hounds will share their Pinterest info so that people can follow each other, rather than just following the OP.

I have two boards that would be of interest to hounds:

I also have a third board of pins I've actually tried, rather than things I've just pinned because they're interesting. It's not all cooking related, but mostly is:

I have a similar board... actually two to your "tried" board... tried and liked and tried and wouldn't make again.

I used to have the wouldn't make again board called "tried and hated" but then the blogger author of one of the recipes I put on there left a message on the pin and sounded kind of offended, so I changed the name to something nicer haha!

              1. re: juliejulez

I particularly appreciate people who have boards where they specifically pin things they've actually tried. It helps me sort out the things that are really practical from the things that only turn out in fancy blogger land.

                1. re: Jacquilynne

Yeah I found it helps me out when meal planning too... I like to try new stuff all the time but sometimes I need a "tried and true" recipe and don't want to search through my individual boards to try a recipe I'm remembering in my head.

                  1. re: juliejulez

yeah haha, i need to do that, mine are kind of mixed together at the moment :/ i'm still trying to figure out the best way to organize mine

                    1. re: urfuturewifey

I completely reorganize mine every few months. :p I'm pretty sure it's annoying as hell for the people following me, but I haven't found a setup I'm happy with yet.

                  2. re: Jacquilynne

You all have inspired me. I organized my recipes yesterday into things I want to try and things I liked. If I tried it and didn't like it, I deleted the pin. I'll try to keep up with this. It's a good idea.

                  3. re: juliejulez

wow, such a great idea to categorize the recipes that way. I have just been organizing them via main ingredient.

                    1. re: fldhkybnva

Oh I do that too for ones I haven't tried yet. Helps w/ meal planning too since I'll know I want to use, for example, pork tenderloin, so I can go to my pork board to pick something out. But yeah, having the "tried and liked" board is super helpful. I just move them vs repinning them after I've tried out the recipe, and I also like making notes about changes I've made, calorie counts, and future tweaks.

                  4. re: Jacquilynne

                    Love your board Jacq!
The artichoke roasted garlic dip looks fab.

Kudos to all..such fantastic boards with great ideas and the pics are stunning!

                  5. Great, I'm glad people are contributing! Maybe we can make this the official Pinterest thread if there isn't one yet, and I hope that others post theirs as well! I will follow you guys back. Also feel free to post a link to some of the recipes on your pinterest that you have tried and really liked! I'll do this later as I have some that turned out really well.

Thanks! If I wasn't on such a tight budget, I'd be doing ALL of that. :)

                            1. Done. Here's mine, but it's not very exciting at the moment. I need to spend more time on Pinterest.

                              1. everyone's boards look great! I'm already inspired haha

I'll follow anyone back - fairly new to Pinterest and have no idea what I'm doing.

                                            1. I love Pinterest especially for recipes: http://www.pinterest.com/helen_m

It's enabled me to ditch about 5 files of recipes I'd printed off or ripped out of magazines or newspapers.

                                                  1. I have followed at least one board from everyone's Pinterest. I love it!

                                                    1. Wow! So many impressive boards.

I haven't used Pinterest for recipes. I started using it when I purchased my townhouse as a way to gather reno/decorating ideas and then added other random visuals.

I think I just found a new way to loose a few hours!

                                                      1. I'm a lurker here for the most part. But here's my Pinterest http://www.pinterest.com/obleak1/

                                                          Impressive collections, all.

I've basically started using Pinterest to manage recipes I'm interested in trying from other websites. Rather than bookmarking them in my browser, I just pin them. Then when I'm trying to find a recipe I remember reading, I search my pins.

                                                            1. re: Jacquilynne

I've tried 241 recipes I've found on Pinterest, so pretty good so far. I try at least 1 new one a week... for awhile it was like 3-4 a week but now I have some favorites I like to make often. I try not to pin stuff that I probably will never make even if it looks good (like if it's super unhealthy, or has tons of ingredients that are hard to find).

                                                                1. re: juliejulez

                                                                      2. Hey guys, so I'm going to start posting links to recipes from Pinterest that I have tried in here, that will make it easier for people to be able to come to this thread and find pinned recipes that have been tested at once instead of having to view several people's boards at once I think.

                                                                        Perfect white cake: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/39716126...

I tried this with fantastic results. This is now my go to recipe for homeade vanilla cake. I added a bit of homeade pudding mix: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/39716126...

to make it moist, and I forget exactly what the method is called but it's where you incorporated the dry ingredients with the butter before adding the liquid, in order to ensure moistness. Highly recommend!

I can post the links later but off the top of my head, the Zuppa Toscona Soup, Best Ham Sandwiches Ever, Nutella Stuffed Chocolate Chip cookies w/ Sea Salt, Glorious Treat's Chocolate cupcakes with peppermint cream cheese frosting, and the Lemon Herb and Prosciutto Chicken Recipes have all been winners for me ( although I admittedly I used peices of bone-in chicken instead of a whole roasted chicken, I like doing that because you can sear the peices of meat before finishing it in the oven). Once I have more time I will post the links and post some more recipes. I'm going to try at least a few each week!

Oh, just remembered another one: Martha's Perfect Mac and cheese and the Levain chocolate chip cookie recipes! Used Gruyere and some good quality Vermont cheddar. I like adding mozzarella, bacon, and roasted red peppers to the mac and cheese recipe and use fresh bread for the bread crumb topping. PHENOMENAL.

                                                                        1. Well I'll jump in! It may be the motivation I need to start some food boards. Most of it at this point is random visuals of whatever struck my fancy at the time.

But my old job? I maybe only had 1 hour of actual work to do per day. No wonder I got laid off :)

(my recipe board is in need of organization!!)

                                                                                                                1. Looking at some many peoples boards has got me thinking about how we decide to pin and how useable we find our boards.

I really try to look over recipes before I pin - just to make sure that it is something I would actually make. I also find that if a board is very broad in scope that I just don't have the patience to wade through it.

How do you choose a pin? Do you find your boards useable? Dish!

I really should check them out ahead of time, as sometimes I end up with things I'm not interested in after all.

I have mine pretty organized at this point. Poultry, pork, beef/venison, vegetarian, sides, desserts, soups/stews, breakfast, etc. Latin and Asian dishes have their own sections, regardless of protein type. I can usually find what I'm looking for based on those.

                                                                                                                    1. re: meatn3

I click through to recipes before I pin them for a couple of reasons:
                                                                                                                      1. To ensure they exist. A surprising number of people don't realize that if you pin something from the main page of a blog, all you end up with is a link to the main page of the blog not to the recipe itself. If it's something I'm seriously interested in, I will search the blog for the recipe and then pin from that page instead.
                                                                                                                      2. To ensure the recipe isn't crap -- especially on baking boards, a lot of crap gets pinned. If one of the ingredients in your cake is a box of cake mix, I probably don't want to pin it. ( The famous Pumpkin Crack from here on Chowhound is an exception. )
                                                                                                                      3. To ensure the site I'm pinning from is actually the source. A lot of pin-spam blogs exist out there to try to get people to link to them instead of to the actual source. I try to follow links to the original poster of the image/recipe.

In terms of organization, other than shunting off cake to its own board just because I pin a lot of cake, I don't try to organize much. Pinterest lets you search results from just your own boards, so if I need to find a chicken recipe that I pinned, I just search for it within my own pins.

                                                                                                                      1. re: Jacquilynne

The whole Pinterest thing has brought to mind the growing importance of websites having good images.

As I go through my Pepperplate recipes I've found many which do not have photos. So I haven't pinned them. I wonder if major sites may find they need to add photos to their older recipes in order to stay relevant.

I find my personal bookmarking/clipping/pinning to be seasonal or ingredient oriented. So often I've found a rhubarb recipe in in the fall and wished I'd had it during the season! Same with figs - I have access to two trees and often am dealing with 10 lbs a day for several weeks. At that point I'm so happy for my (paper) fig folder since I have no time to search.

I'm definitely getting a lot of good ideas on organization and a feel for what will work for my habits by looking at so many 'Hounds boards. We'll see in a year or so if my categories end up working for me!

                                                                                                                        1. re: Jacquilynne

All good points. That's what I look for when I'm checking them. The only time I don't really check is when I'm browsing on my phone, cuz it's kind of a pain.... That's when I end up with "why is this even here?" pins.

                                                                                                                          1. re: Jacquilynne

I made the pumpkin crack cake........

                                                                                                                            1. re: Jacquilynne

This is all pretty much the same for me... that's probably why I don't have thousands of recipes pinned... I have a lot, but not that many! I really read through them to make sure I'd actually make it at some point. If it's got 2 cups of heavy cream? Yeah probably not going to make that. Relies on stuff like those Philadelphia Cooking Cremes or canned soups? Not happening.

On my slow cooker board, I've found it helpful to list in the caption what type of meat it uses (ie bone in thighs) and the time and temperature needed... that helps me decide more quickly when doing my meal planning. On my other boards I try to note if something has a cooking time longer than an hour since that basically limits it to a weekend.

                                                                                                                          2. This is a good idea!! Here is my link - I have several food related boards and always seem to be trying to clean them up. http://www.pinterest.com/srlh627/

I'm here! http://www.pinterest.com/ottawal/ I have a huge amount of recipes pinned. I used to have a single food board, but once it grew to 800 pins (eek!) I decided to organize it all, so they are categorized now. I have some lifestyle/DIY pins too, but most of my boards are food. I LOVE Pinterest.
