Gelato in Firenze

  • 7

Where is the best place to get gelato in Florence? I don't want to get stuck in a tourist trap while visiting.

  1. I personally love Grom. It's on an off street off the main piazza for the Duomo:

    Via del Campanile, 2

Even though it's near the Duomo, it's still really nice and not super touristy.

    1. The best gelato in Florence is generally agreed to be Carapina, on a small alley not far from Ponte Vecchio.

      Other great ones include:
      Carabe
      Gelateria Santa Trinita

Grom is ok, but these others are much better, and not part of a chain

Another you should make an effort to go to is Il Re del Gelato, not far from the train station. It's run by a real chef who crafts truly incredible flavors. He's from Sicily, so you can also have your gelato stuffed into a soft sweet bun instead of a cone.

For chocolate flavors stop by Vestri.

          1. Have you tried the Gelateria del Passera in the Via Vellutini (very close to Quattre Leone). We tried it out on our last visit to Florence (October 2013) and thought it the best of the trip - in particular the 7 Agrumi which comprised Orange, lemon, clove, cinnamon, cardamon and sadly can't remember the other two but it was just divine; likewise their chocolate, coffee, pistachio etc. and it was very reasonably priced too....
