Tried Graeters Black Raspberry Chip for the first time, but...

It was a retail pint, as I am in NJ, not OH. As I don't know the turnover for the product, I am trying to judge whether what I ate was a true representation of the ice cream or if it suffered somewhere along the line. There was a best by date of March 2014 on the bottom, so it's pretty close to expiration. The ice cream was not really creamy as compared to say B&J. It was almost icy, but it was not truly icy, if that makes sense. There were no ice crystals. I expected it to be richer tasting. The "chips" were fine, creamy, melted easily, not fake or waxy. The ice cream was comparable to how I find gelato to have a less luxurious mouthfeel.

Anyway, is that typical for Graeters or did I get an old pint?

  1. Not typical at all, you got an old pint. Sorry!

I've gotten it from the grocery a few times here (Los Angeles) and it's been creamy, almost chewy - not icy at all.

And I had some a friend had shipped from Ohio, directly - same divine stuff.

        Really? Yikes!

Does your store let you bring stuff back with a receipt if the quality is bad?

Yes, but of course I don't manage to save the receipts!

I'm guessing there is just not enough turnover.

I was trying to decide if it was worth to stop there if I ever drive through the area.

            They do ship -

I've also had it from Giant Eagle in Ohio and the texture has been great. So perhaps there's a bit more of a turnover there. So if you're driving through Ohio... Or, I didn't realize, they have retail stores outside of Ohio too -

Thanks. I will give them another shot.

        3. I've had the original from the shop and the store bought, definitely is a very thick creamy consistency! I can't say the flavor is super strong, but they're chips are the best!
