Chef Tasting Menus north of Boston?

microbiologynerd Feb 14, 2014 05:18 AM

Looking for recommendations for any restaurant / country club. etc. that offer tasting menus (preferably with wine/drink pairings) north of Boston. So far all I've found is Four Oaks Country Club in Dracut. Thank you in advance!

To me your best bet would be Bistro 5 in West Medford. Chef Ettore is really producing high end, "downtown" quality cuisine and offers a stunning Chef's Tasting Menu, with wine pairings. His sister restaurant, A Tavola in Winchester, sometimes offers a chef's tasting menu, but I would definitely try Bistro 5 first.

thanks UnclePH! I've driven by Bistro 5 a million times, never ventured in.

I'm also open to restaurants in southern NH

The only other place that comes to mind would be Cava in Portsmouth. Not sure if that hits the mark location wise, but it's a lovely restaurant and they do offer a tasting menu.

Have lived nearby and tried Bisto 5 a number of times, but not in the past 3 yrs.,and have never been very impressed. It's very good- for the wasteland that is otherwise the 'burbs, but for better food and beautiful room, i would direct you to Five Corners Bistro in Marblehead , or Black Trumpet Bistro in Portsmouth NH. If you do a CH Search, you will find a number of threads on them.

I haven't been since they changed chefs(for the way better, I'm told)but you might look into Cena in Newburyport.

Both Five Corners Kitchen and Black Trumpet are lovely restaurants but I don't think they offer a chef's tasting menu. I can find no evidence of them at least. I'm surprised to hear you say you weren't impressed with Bistro Five. We've always had great meals in there. That being said, we've only been in the past two years. They've recently expanded and retooled the look of the interior.

Keon's in Haverhill does a Sunday wine dinner once a month.
its not a big place and they tend to sell out quickly but its a pretty good time and the food is always good.
