Gradisca - has anyone been there any time in the last couple of years???

A NYC acquaintance who seems to enjoy good food just recommended as THE BEST Italian in Manhattan. Everything here is old. Any current opinions? TIA.

  1. very good neighborhood place... maybe the best Italian in a several block radius (depending on whether the real contenders are close to its location)... but not best in the city.

    1. Two Alarming things came up while googling this

      1) Looks like I already googled it recently. (Getting old)

      2) The menu looks mighty fine if not a tad pricey (pastas high 20's, etc)

I also thought the pastas were pretty high.

The pasta prices have always been high, but we've always liked this restaurant. The owner's mother flies in from Bologna (I believe) and makes the fresh pasta. We haven't been in a few years; seems like it's time for a visit!

I don't know if we'll have time this trip but it would be great to get together. Let's get in touch, t.

@c oliver, sorry, but I just saw this response as I was going through Manhattan topics searching for something. I did not mean to ignore it.

While I love the exchange of ideas and information on these boards, anything beyond that is not really my thing. Thank you for the kindly offer though.

Not a problem, bud. But I always appreciate your comments.

      2. With an emphatic recommendation by an ex-sous chef @ a well-known NYC restaurant, six weeks ago five of us patronized the much heralded Gradisca. We each ordered different items and tasted them all. Unanimously, we agreed the seared scallop appetizer and the chicken main-course were extraordinarily savory and perfectly prepared. The main-course fish was over-cooked, rubbery and almost inedible. Unfortunately, the waiter brought something we did not order. We kept it, and ordered the meat (beef) dish. It never arrived. Although we did not make a fuss, to their credit the savvy manager brought us an array of complimentary desserts. Three of us do not intend to return. Even after the experience, our friend the ex-chef, remains an ardent fan saying this particular evening was an anomaly.

        1. I went a few months ago and had an excellent meal. Do I like it as much as Po? No, but I would definitely rate it as one of the best in the Village area.
