Just back from a short trip to Paris, staying in Passy, I thought I would give an update on this distant "village".
La Matta: Rue de l'Annonciation, a busy Italian restaurant, good ambiance and nice welcome. Same menu and management accross the road in their annex with the same nice welcome but a quieter ambiance if you need to talk. Good value for money.
Mirama Thai, on rue Duban (opposite Sotobello) is more Chinese than Thai, and also has some Vietnamese dishes. Cheap (25 Euros) and good quality but bring your own ambiance.
Kura (corner of rue Bois.le Vent & Boulainvilliers) is still one of the best Japanese restaurant in Paris; Not cheap (38 Euros for a large plate of Sashimi, bowl of rice and Miso soup) but the quality is constantly there. Several tables of local Japanese (i.e. not tourists) which is always good news.
Chez Geraud, rue Vital: New owners have refreshed and modernised this traditional restaurant without changing the menu too much. Crispy ris-de-veau (sweetbread) and a nice filet de sanglier (which was from a very young wildboar, close to the Spanish black pig)
And finally, further afield, a mention for the Cristal Room, place des États-Unis, for a special event. The restaurant is part of the Baccarat cristal museum, in an old private mansion. The lunch menu is only 50 Euros for 2 courses plus dessert and gives free access to the museum :o) See http://www.cristalroom.com/
The food is light, nicely presented (photo), but unfortunately the kitchen must be too far as our mains were served tepid at best; Or maybe they could not cope with our birthday table of 10, which is strange considering the choice is between only 2 starters, 2 main courses and 2 desserts so the kitchen should not have been stressed! However, a very nice place to keep in mind for a romantic invitation or to impress a business associate...
