google suggests gowanus, brooklyn, and that the owner was invovled in kinara up the hill from Kanan on 5th ave (which i found to be pretty average/typical overly greasy one-note north indian/punjabi food).

TDLOA - care to share more about what you ordered with those clear, distinct, flavor profiles and how it compares to other indian places around town?

kinara had its lineage from baluchi or one of the other Manhattan chains - it seemed pretty good but no where near great when it opened. I wouldnt hold working there against the owners of this new restaurant - if its a husband and wife team with the wife in the kitchen that already sounds hopeful for an indian place in NY.

Make sure to try their pickles.

Sanskriti is a new Indian restaurant on Seventh Ave. near Lincoln Place. On my first visit, was impressed, particularly with the "street snacks" portion of the menu. It's also BYO, always a plus.
