running list of moderate/upscale Toronto restaurants that don't take reservations or leave some bar seats and/or some tables for walk-ins

prima Feb 6, 2014 06:22 AM

Correct me if I'm wrong for any of these:

Harbord Room
Bar Isabel
Ici

Where else?

Actually, many of the Ossington restaurants don't take reservations - seems to be the trend (e.g. specifically Hawker Bar).

The responses and thread title confuse me. Lists of places that don't do both or places that don't do one or the other?

I took it to mean that Prima was looking for places that you can just walk in to. But, since in my experience, that is most places, I just provided the ones for which you cannot. In other words, my list are the places you need a reservation for.

          What Pete said.
Seems most restos I like that take reservations are booked this Saturday.

I wanted to start a reference list of moderate/upscale restos for nights when a Chowhound is a walk-in and/or wants to dine out when restos that take reservations appear to take reservations have/show no availability.

So take the inverse of my list. :)

Ici doesn't leave bar seats available, Bar Isabel does.

And given that I very rarely make resos, the answer is nearly all restos in TO with a few exceptions that don't, Ie:

        Edulis
        Cafe Boulud
        Ici
        Shoto
        Hashimito
        Sushi Kaji
Yours Truly (I think, not 100%)
        Monk Kitchen
        Scaramouche

I would consider Black Hoof moderate upscale.
