Chamberlain's Steak and Chop House
Last night I was a solo diner at Chamberlain's. I was craving steak and have had some good meals there in the past. I think that either at the bar or in one of the booths in the bar is a great place for a single or a couple. The wine list begins with a couple of pages of specials. The bottle prices on those pages are discounted from 25% to almost 50% and include some really good bottles. I wish more places would adopt this practice. I usually get the crab cake which for me is one of the best in Dallas. I opted instead for a spinach salad with warm goat cheese. Excellent. Oh, and the meal begins with very good sourdough bread and warm popovers with room temperature butter. I saw the chef/owner, Richard Chamberlain, greeting patrons and visiting diners so I called him over and asked that he pick out the best, most marbled steak available, either rib eye or strip (no filet, of course). He returned from the kitchen and told me that the bone-in, dry aged rib eyes looked great so I hopped on it. The steak was truly one of the best I have had anywhere, cooked perfectly on the rare side of medium rare yet with a very nice char. I substituted a loaded baked potato for the garlic mashed potatoes although I know from past experience that the mashed potatoes are very good as well. I added a side of Bearnaise which was also excellent. All in all it was a great meal. I don't often eat at steakhouses in Dallas but when I do this will absolutely be at the top of my list. Service, from valet parking to bartender to waiter, was as professional as can be. Richard Chamberlain has been around Dallas a LONG time and I can see why. Very happy to support this locally owned spot and see that it is hitting on all cylinders.
