K St & 12 St

I'm moving to DC in less than 2 weeks and will be living at the corner of K St and 12 St. I need to buildup my repertoire of standbys that are close to me so I'm hoping the CHs can help!

Looking for the following fairly close to my place that I can rely on, meaning:
Good chinese takeout
Sandwich shop (deli type)
Burger joint
Place with a vast beer selection

I desperately miss Italian food where I currently live, so any Italian nearby would be great.

Thanks in advance!

  1. I assume you mean 12th and K Northwest, right?

    1. Shake Shack in Gallery Place for burgers. Matchbox does solid burgers as well; the pizzas can be hit or miss.

I like the Italian at Tosca, but it isn't cheap. Folks seem to like Grafiatto, but it's way too "vibrant" a scene for me.

Birch & Barley and Churchkey for sprawling beer selection.

      1. Ok, you'll be one block from Brasserie Beck, a very good Belgian bistro with hearty food (great mussels) and lots of beers.

Also close is Bibiana for Italian.

Taylor Gourmet for Philly-style hoagies and cheesesteaks at 5th and K.

Acadiana at 901 NY Ave has very good NOLA-style food.

There is usually an army of food trucks at Franklin Sq (13th and K).

You'll be pretty close to Chinatown (Gallery Place/Verizon Center) but don't expect much in the way of great Chinese food (much better out in the burbs). I haven't been to the Chinatown Matchbox but you should definitely try their sliders.

If you like to walk a bit, you'll be within range of the restaurant strips on 14th St (Logan Circle) and the Penn Quarter neighborhood (Jaleo for tapas, etc).

        Welcome to the neighborhood!

        1. For Chinese you should see if Sichuan Pavilion will deliver to you. They are at 18th and K and I have found them to be the best Chinese food in the area.

For beer you are practically right next door to Brasserie Beck. It doesn't get better than that in terms of beer selection. I would introduce myself to the bartenders and make myself a regular. The mussels and frites are also great there.
