In need of a “cool” place for dinner March 1

Price no object but “cool” was specified by traveling C-suite exec from UAE. Food needs to be very good. Thinking of Charlie Bird but reservations limited to 5:30/5:45 and opinions seem to be all over the place

Suggestions please. Thanks in advance.

  1. You should consider Ma Peche and The NoMad.

ellennost-you took the words right out of my mouth. Both great but I would probably think the "cool" factor better at Ma Peche. I always sit at counter-best seats!!!

      1. re: UES Mayor

If the OP can get a resy for kappo, the exec should be so thrilled (as I was with my dinner on Saturday night) that the OP will probably get a promotion :-).

    2. How many people?

You're just inside the 1 month booking window for many restaurants, which means the best tables for weekend nights are already gone.

Some of the "cool" places don't take reservations, either.

Did you look at the NY Eater Heatmap?

      1. Thank you both for the speedy reply. There will be 4 of us.

Yes, I realize that re the window. Just got the request this morning. NoMad is a very good suggestion! Ma Peche although the food is great, location leaves much to be desired post meal.

        1. How old are those CEO/CFO etc?

What's cool to a 40/50 year old C-Suite exec may not be for someone of the same rank who's 60/70 years old.

I suppose along the lines of Charlie Bird you might look at Stanton Social or Carbone.

The gentleman is mid 50’s, jazz guitarist, lower east side born and raised, living overseas since 1984. He will be bringing his niece, 25.

            Thnx ipsedixit!

            1. re: dragonfly

Why not EMP? Or maybe even Masa?

If I'm about 10 years from Social Security income I would certainly appreciate a full-on meal at one of the world's best restaurants and would certainly consider it pretty cool.

Unless you're friend is more interested in eye candy then the other suggestions would work better I suppose.

              1. re: ipsedixit

haha, i was thinking the same thing (eye candy) regarding the request for “cool”.

          2. +1 for NoMad
            Also:
            Momofuku Ko
            Lafayette
            Louro

It amazes me that 4 weeks (minus 1 day) out the majority of the above have availability at 5-6:15pm or after 9:30pm.

Thanks to all who replied. I now have a healthy list from which to navigate.

                  1. re: dragonfly

Don't just trust open table, call about a res also.

If you have an Amex, try the concierge service.

                        1. re: ipsedixit

will do. hadn’t thought of that. thnx!

Charlie Bird for me was disgusting!!! When I gave owner constructive criticism he totally ignored me and walked away!! Never will be back.

                      1. re: UES Mayor

Dont feel bad. We were eating with friends of the woners and he pretty much ignored us too. We even had to flag him down to get us our drinks that we ordered and never came. Service matched the awful food.

                    2. If Piora is available, try there. Cool, incredible food..off the menu steak....everything is wonderful!!

again, availability is 6:15 or 10:30pm. craziness.

                        thnx for the recommendation!

                      2. Thank you to all who replied!

The stars were aligned yesterday when EMP called and offered us a table at 8:30 pm.
It will be the first time for all of us.

You are going to love it. If you enjoy cocktails get there early enough to have a drink at the bar.

                          1. re: dragonfly

EMP is great. Not exactly cool/trendy, but really great. You might want to pop over to Milk & Honey for drinks before or afterwards. If you can still walk after dinner...

                            1. re: kathryn

Wonderful suggestion, Kathryn! I was wondering that as well. And ... understood about cool/trendy.

thnx spiritchaser! is it possible to overwhelm the senses in one evening?

                                    Nope : )

Actually my GF and I do this route often, sometimes mix up the order but we love doing EMP, NoMad, and Milk & Honey one after the other.
