Can't help but notice that we haven't heard from GJ since her orignal post...

    2. OMG, a woman after my own heart

      Love Bohemia pale :-)

I had a cat named Dos Equis - yes, he *was* named for the beer - we called him Ace for short.

OK, I'm slow. How did you get "Ace" out of "Dos Equis"? Or is it an unrelated nickname?

        1. re: DoctorChow

You don't. Ace was just a call name. I didn't want to put it on the registration papers

        2. re: DiningDiva

Ha! Our cat's name is Carta Blanca. And yes, that is our favorite Mexican beer.

          1. re: foodiechick

I had a cat named Carta Blanca too! The beer is pretty good too :-)...always a better choice than Pacifico or Corona

I miss the stubbies with the cap opener in the bottom of the bottle. Don't even run across those in Baja anymore.

              1. re: foodiechick

stubbies??? that's an Aussie term for short neck beer bottles. Put down quite a few back in the day.

                1. re: foodiechick

Those sure were cool, not to mention handy :-)

                  1. re: foodiechick

They were called "quitapons" of the few things I remember from the early seventies, oddly enough.

            2. We recently tried a number of Mexican beers we'd never had before. Our favorites were Montejo and Leon Negra. Excellent.

Anyone know where to find these locally?

Others that were new (to me at least) were Indio (very good), Superior (not really superior, but good) and Victoria (OK).

Our staple Mexican beers are Modelo Especial, Bohemia, and Dos Equis amber, all very good.

I really like both Montejo and Leon as well. I am not sure that either is imported by anyone into the US and I'm not sure they're even available in Baja. They're pretty much a regional beer.

A 'Chelada con Montejo is just the ticket on a hot and humid day in the Yucatan :-)

                1. re: DoctorChow

I was very disappointed in Victoria after the "big" rollout in our region a couple of years ago.

Modelo Especial is my second fave, better half love Bohemia.

Just saw (and bought) a six-pack of Montejo cerveza clara at Keils! They had both bottles and cans; I got bottles.

                    Hooray, it's finally being imported!

I frankly can't recall if what we had in Yucatan was a clara -- short memory. I think so , but no matter, this will definitely do!

I'm already on bottle #2, drinking out of a chilled tubo, and relishing the moment. (I know, "tubo" is a Spanish thing, but that's what I'm drinking out of.)

                    1. Negra Modelo or bust!

Hmmmm now I want to go to Taco Alley
