La Flor Bakery and Cafe, in Queens, still around, still decent to pretty good ???? and cheap ?
I still love it. I live only five blocks away, so it is sort of a go-to place, so perhaps I am biased. But, even on my birthday last year I told my husband that I wanted to go there. The food is always solid, their salads, pastas, entrees, and apps are still excellent with great flavor and never leave you with that gros,s heavy feeling - despite nice not-skimpy portions. Their service has improved significantly from their earlier days. I alway feel like everything I eat there is very fresh and has this odd, in a good way, combo of delicate and robust flavor. Everyone I bring there is always very pleased. They recently did minor redecorating and they still frequently have very charming live musicians. My only issue is that their "specials" menu didn't change for a long, long time. I used to be excited see what was on special but for at least three dinner visits over the course of a month or two, it was the same menu. I haven't been in a little while, but now I have the urge and hope they are offering new specials.
