In case anyone is interested... top of the list are all in London.

    2. I always have a problem with the word "gastropub" - as many of them actually arent. They are restaurants that happen to be set up in buildings that were once pubs. For example, no-one is turning up at the Harwood Arms or the Royal Oak Paley Street for a half of mild and a packet of pork scratchings.

      Not all, of course. You'll be very welcome just having a drink at the likes of the Hardwick at Abergavenny or the Freemasons at Wiswell. Now, *those* are gastropubs!

        Well four of the top five are pubs and you can have a pint at the. I have also been to 12 of of the next 45 and all of those are good for a beer at the bar as well?

        It's not a bad list, although I think London is over represented - the 16 I have tried would all deserve a repeat visit - some brilliant others simply good.
