Calcots @ Pizarro, Bermondsey, London

These large wild green onions are in season. Had them again recently at Pizarro, roasted in foil till the tips were dark. Was great to peel off the outer layer, and chomp down on the soft slightly squishy whites, with a gentle vegetal sweetness. Perfect with the romesco sauce.

      The tender but nicely firm rib-eye with crispy onions and mashed potatoes (olive oil rather than butter).

          Happy New Year to you too! Focused on the calcots because it's seasonal, don't know how long more they'll have it. They change the menu semi-regularly, and there was a big revamp just after the new year.
