Nice restaurant near Jay Street/Brooklyn station for Sunday afternnon

ttoommyy Jan 25, 2014 08:10 PM

To make a long story short, we will be visiting the Jay Street/Metrotech subway station in Brooklyn tomorrow around 1:30 pm. Looking for a nice restaurant to have lunch (not typical brunch fair) tomorrow. Italian would be preferable, but open to other suggestions. Willing to walk a reasonable distance. I'm pretty much clueless when it come to the outer boroughs, so please be patient with me. Thanks.

Does it matter what direction you go in? In Brooklyn Heights there's the relatively new place Sociale which has been receiving favorable remarks. Mainstays Queen and Noodle Pudding won't be open at that time. For what I think is fantastic pizza (smaller personal Neopolitan pies) there's Sottocasa on Atlantic. A few extra minutes down Smith Street is Savoia. Those will be your best bets for Italian within a 10 minute walk.

Thanks. Sottocasa looks nice and would be fine. We don't mind hopping back on a train and going another stop or two if that opens up the choices.

Sociale looks good, too. Thanks again.

Went to Sottocasa and liked it a lot. Nice crust on the pizza and friendly service. Also had the beet salad and tuna & ceci salad. Both very fresh and tasty. We would definitely go back. Thanks for the recommendation.
Added plus: the Italian staff gave us an opportunity to use our limited Itaian, which is always nice.
