Diners in Houston

Are there any good quality diners in Houston? I've tried a few places like 59 diner or Lola and I just wasn't that impressed. I just moved here from New Orleans and really loved Slim Goodies and Surreys over there and want to find something similar here.

I can list a few personal favorites, with a couple of caveats. I've been to neither Slim Goodies nor Surreys so I don't know exactly what you're looking for. And I rather like the food at Lola's!

(I also used to like 59 Diner but I reckon it's gone downhill in the last ten years or so).

Avalon Diner. Three locations around town; I've only ever been to the original on Westheimer. Excellent milkshakes.

Triple A Restaurant on Airline. Homey and a tiny bit scruffy. Good homemade biscuits and Chicken Fried Steak.

Dot Coffee Shop on the Gulf Freeway, just inside the loop. Surprisingly decent coffee for a diner. http://www.pappas.com/restaurants/dot-coffee-shop/

Tel-Wink Restaurant and Grill on Telephone Road. Cheap and cheerful;also does very good homemade biscuits.

I would recommend Barbecue Inn on Crosstimbers as a go to place. Also, if you are looking for a very fine gumbo, make your way over to the LA Crawfish location inside of Ranch 99 grocery store on I-10.

if 24 hour servings is what you want, Katz Deli. Better for Deli is Kenny & Ziggy's. If breakfast/omelet's are what you want.. ck out Empire Café, funky beat. Brooklyn Atheletic Club might work for you... I'm from Jersey,, home of Diner's.. You won't find anything like that, here.
