I'm going for a wedding in a few months and need some food suggestions. Staying at the Renaissance downtown so walking or short cab would be preferred but willing to travel if the food is worth it.
I'm not looking for anything in particular I just want to the food to be good and would prefer alcohol
Directly across the street from the Renaissance is Italian restaurant called "Saza's". Casual. You can sit at the chef's bar & watch them cook, or you can get a table. Excellent food. No need for a cab ride, drink & eat as much as you want and walk back. They're open for lunch & dinner.
For fine dining go to True. If you want a good hot dog go to Chris's downtown, a very old historical hot dog establishment.
There is a lot of good food in walking distance.
Central is across the street in the Alleyway has really good food and a lovely atmosphere. I've heard good stuff about the new sandwich shop in the complex.
There is a Dreamland BBQ there, which does not come close the the famous one in Tuscaloosa, but is o.k. Railroad Thai in the old train station offers more than just thai food and is decent. Have occassionally eaten in the hotel restaurant and it has been good, but not been there in a couple of years.
If you want to venture out, the Cloverdale area has a number of nice restaraunts: True, Jubilee, El Rey, Tomatinos, Cafe Louisa and Sinclairs. Fine dining, seafood, Mexican(lots of vegetarian options) pizza, sandwiches and full menu american in that order.
