Ice cream. Not yogurt.
Clarification out of the way, with the Big Gay Ice Cream about to debut here in LA, I'm wondering what other options for soft-serve ice cream there are in LA?
The most recent threads on the topic date back to 2011 and 2009, with suggestions that have since closed (Malibu Ice Cream in Westwood), and some old stand-bys like Strickland, Farmer's Market, etc., and some that are just forgettable (e.g. Fosters Freeze).
I grew up with Tastee Freez of I'm a big fan of Soft Serve.
Soft serve Frozen custard at Rita's in Redondo Beach and it's pretty good.
Pier Burger on the Santa Monica Pier
Baskin and Robbins 31 Flavors. (limited flavors)
and the McDonalds dollar menu.
Technically not ice cream but my favorite soft serve is custard from Bruxie. They only have 1 flavor but its delicious. The sundae with waffle cone, caramel and peanuts is fantastic. The soft serve is rich and creamy with an excellent consistency.
Tom Carvel invented soft serve ice cream and his recipe, as far as I'm concerned, is the de facto standard. The flavor is full and real, the texture dense and creamy.
