The Taste 1/22/14 spoilt

w
Worldwide Diner Jan 23, 2014 07:59 PM

Even Nigella recognizes her team is a hot mess. She really should've booted her entire team. Jacquelyn's complete ignorance of confit is baffling.

That said, I think Sheu showed more promise than the vegan and since they take past performance into account, keeping him made sense.

The oldest street food probably came with the oldest civilization, and it ain't fish and chips.

Ugh! Roy Choi on both Top Chef and The Taste in the same week? Why TV? Why?

Nigella should have sent her entire team home. What horrible women.

And Nigella proves that even a very simple, modest, non-cleavage showing pant suit can look simply fabulous.

True! I rolled my eyes when they announced him. But - I thought he was less obnoxious on the Taste. At least he didn't tell everyone their food was crap.

Because what he's supposed to say is generally scripted? I"m sure he's told to be positive on The Taste and on Top Chef he's probably told to rip them new a-holes.

I think Nigella should have sent herself home last night.

I had to turn if off after the fish and chips incident.
I have worked for women like that in the past.

Even if you are doing things correctly or doing things as told, you are still doing it wrong to her. Let her do it and things come out wrong and it's still someone else's fault.

I know how her nanny's that were in the news a while back felt after last night's show.
      Ugh.

      Insufferable tw@t.

I don't know if Nigella brings out the worst in people but those two women on her team were idiots.

Nigella doesn't seem as likable in this season in her interaction with her chefs as she did last season .... however, across the board the other contestants seem to think that Nigella's contestants are total assholes ... I think that says something.

      2. LindaWhit Jan 24, 2014 10:11 AM

"Baffling" for Jacqueline and her definition of confit is putting it mildly. Her arguing with Nigella was rather astonishing, especially using the phrase "coming into my kitchen" when referring to Nigella walking over to see what she was working on. I agree that both of them should be gone.

This is the second season, and in both seasons, Nigella's picks for cooks in her kitchen haven't fared well. Last season, Lauren made it the furthest, but 3 of the 4 were gone by the 3rd episode. And what a surprise - 3 of the 4 in this season were gone by the 3rd episode as well! But, since she's an executive producer, guess she gets to stay on camera.

As much as I enjoy Nigella in other venues, and even last season, I feel like a complete train wreck happened here.
          a) Nigella isn't in a good mood.
          b) her picks giver her absolutely no respect. Shockingly no respect. I'm glad she said she wishes she could kick them both. I would have cheered even if it meant that annoying laughing faux vegan stayed.
          c) the fish and chips idea was stupid. Or her cooks were stupid. The gal on was it Marcel's team shows how you could do so much more than just Long John Silver's. That wasn't even a bite they served up to douchebag, I mean Roy... who was super nice to these "amateur cooks" but a dick wad to michelin star chefs on top chef.

        2. Firegoat Jan 24, 2014 10:53 AM

Thinking about team hot mess, to be fair, it seems like Nigella rang in on many of the same people the other chefs did. .... just the cooks didn't pick her. Unless I was a massive Nigella fan, if I had a pick between her and Ludo or Marcus... I would pick them. I think I would learn a lot more. Anthony, love him, but too gimmicky for me. Spam boy.

Did Marcus have to dress like a nimrod? I've seen him on many shows and I've never seem him dress so bizarrely.

I think that's just the way he dresses (I can't recall what he was wearing on last night's ep). From a pic taken a couple of days ago for City Harvest:

              http://www.zimbio.com/photos/Donatell...

And if you Google Image "Marcus Samuelsson style", you come up with all sorts of outfits.

Yeah, it seems no different that what he wears any other time, based on Google Image. I actually like his style way better than Malarkey's turned up into big-cuffs & bare ankle look.

Good choice to keep Shehu. At least he has the skills to possibly win. The vegan doesn't. She might be open to learning but that's because she comes w/ no knowledge. Her laugh. So glad she's gone.

It seemed pretty obvious that it was two against two on who to send home during the much-too-long argument phase. And obvious that Nigella caved and switched her vote to send Cassandra home. I think they went on and on too long about how "unfair" it was. The game works as it does.

Should've broken the rules and sent Jacquelyn (however she spells her name), the pink haired freaking moron, home.

I actually was waiting for her to send them both home. There was no reason to keep one over the other.

I guess Cassandra (who has a blog, naturally) has received hate texts/emails from other vegans/vegetarians that thought she was a sell out on the show.

I think it was fairly clear that if she didn't "give" on the meat thing, she was going to be gone soon(er). I think she made a choice; I personally don't blame her.

I don't blame her, but I find it strange how vegetarianism/veganism is treated as an annoying whim on the show, as opposed to a valid moral stance. It's somehow acceptable to pressure her to eat meat, but it wouldn't be if she was abstaining for religious reasons.

That said, as a vegetarian, I would never sign up for one of these shows, precisely because I couldn't do well without compromising my values.

It is an annoying whim as practiced by a lot of folks -- notice how quickly it gets dropped when there's something at stake.

Just because some people don't take it seriously doesn't mean it's OK to dismiss others.

My mom's a vegan for religious purposes (Buddhist). I can't imagine her sending hate mail. I guess not all vegans are compassionate.

                          http://www.epicurious.com/articlesguides/blogs/editor/2014/01/lee-knoeppel-the-taste.html

Interesting read. Also, we don't have to worry about him waiting tables any longer as he's back to executive chef

                          And another interview of lee
                          http://blog.ice.edu/2014/01/23/alumni...

Turns out he wasn't new to TV, has worked for Food Network on Secrets of a Restaurant Chef and 24 Hour Restaurant Battle. He's culinary producer of another show for FN now

According to Jeff's facebook page he's going to be doing pop up restaurants with Cassandra and Lee. In the New York area I'd guess...

Every time Ludo said "spaym" I cringed. Why can't he pronounce spam?

Nigella's team is so lame. It's really hard to watch how they don't listen to anything she says. They say yes but keep doing what they were doing before. So clueless.

When Jacqueline said "that's not who I am", I screamed at the tv, "that is exactly who you are, you oblivious moron!"

I'm not a fan of Nigella but I felt so sorry for her, though I guess she picked these losers, so I guess it's her own doing.
