Casual Saturday night dining

Planning a diner in early Feb and want to avoid winterlicious. Looking for somewhere for a casual dinner with friends, want relaxed atmosphere, not too loud! Was going to go to Against the Grain but they are taking part in 'licious.

  1. I would suggest 5 Doors north for a good casual meal. It's a great casual spot that has good food and service. The environment is warm and welcoming.

Another option would be Simple Bistro. It's a bit more upscale than 5 Doors North but still casual enough where the service and food is not 'precious' or pretentious. I think they have a very good price fixe option that is offered during the weekday.

Then there's The Saint... I would say it's more of a gastropub perhaps? Definitely more casual but still enjoyable. I recently had a good brunch there and it was a lively atmosphere.

FYI, 5 Doors North is participating in Winterlicious so that won't help the OP.

    2. Big Ragu is pretty casual...family owned/run restaurant.

Zakkushi or Kingyo, two very different Japanese pubs. Kingyo is quieter and has a broader menu with some higher-end choices, but still a warm and casual atmosphere. Booking essential. (Guu is too noisy and used to have that annoying 2-hour limit! Haven't been back in ages with two better izakaya nearby!)
