National Pie Day 2014
Not that y'all need a nudge, I thought you'd like to know that it's National Pie Day. What's for dessert?
One of my all time favorite jokes because it translates so well.
"I only like two kinds of pie."
"Really, what kinds?"
"Hot pie and cold pie!"
I bet it's even funny in Basque.
Here's Thursday's display of pies at Fremont Diner in Sonoma. Pecan pie and the fried pies were filled with silky nutella. The crust for the fried pies hews closer to what I imagine biscuit dough deep-fried would be than a traditional pie crust. Lots of bubbles to make for a crisp and fragile texture, and pretty large for the $4.99 price, big enough to share (though I did not!).
