  1. I see only one Yelp report http://www.yelp.com/biz/budackis-hot-... which means this place has been open all of 15 minutes - right?

i have no clue you are prolly right considering I did not find anything myself.

Just passed by it a couple hours ago. It's in that mixed used relatively new construction building with a Chipotle-way.

This is a Chicago place and evidently Bourdain has written about/been to eat there as well http://www.yelp.com/biz/budackis-driv...

Yeah, that's the google info I originally found in which it may have connections to the Chi-town joint.

    2. Interesting. I used to go to Budacki's in Chicago every once in awhile. It's a decent hot dog joint, super cheap, and was actually featured in a Jeff Garlin movie, I Want Someone To Eat Cheese With. I'll have to make it down to this outpost sometime soon.

      1. I went Monday night and it was decent. I liked the Itallian beef better than the Chicago dog. Though not having a real Italian beef reference, I'm not sure I'm the best judge. What I will say is the sandwich had good beef flavor Perhaps a bit salty and the jus it was dipped in didn't make the bread fall apart. It had a bit of Giardiniera which they ask you if you want and which added a nice flavor and a bit of spice. I might ask for a bit more. I would rate this somewhere well above Phillippe's and below Cole's

The dog was more of a disappointment. The menu showed a natural casing dog however the real thing was not. It was pretty good for a standard dog but I was hoping for something else. Other detractions was the lack of Poppy seeds and the seeming lack of celery salt. Though it was a hell of a lot better than the one I tried at Wienerschnitzel.

That said, this is what my father would call a hot steamin' deal since the whole thing plus fries and a pop was $8. If you are somewhat near the area, I'd go for it.

lol...Nice review Matty. If I'm ever down that way I would be inclined to get a bite to eat there. Was there any appreciable crowd? How was the service? Thanks for sharing...as always.

Sevrog just ride your bike there one night.

I'm sure that's at least 15 miles each way from where you're at so you'll burn a shitload of kcals off.

            Get there already !!!!!!

            1. re: Servorg

Service was fast and friendly. There wasn't an appreciable crowd. There were 3 other customers while I was there.

              Wait a second.

It was eight bucks all in for the hot dog, the beef sandwich, fries, and a soda ????

              Thanks for reporting Matt.

                1. re: Mattapoisett in LA

Thats really a deal considering that most joints would charge at least $6 for the Italian beef sandwich and about $3 to $4 for the Chitown dog.

                  1. re: kevin

It is quite a deal but, not really chow worthy.

            3. Went last night after the Kings game. They have a few kinks to work out, but it's a passable Chicago-style dog. The fries are poor though, frozen Sysco-type, so if they could fix that with some quality skin-on fresh cut fries and wrap them in the dog that would be a big improvement.

Prices seem ridiculously cheap to me, IMO. 2 dogs, fries and a pop (yes, it's pop on the signs there) for $7.

I'd pay a buck or two more if the fries were quality, to be fair.
