Anyone tried it ?

What are your thoughts ?

It sounds pretty damn cheap so if the food is quite good, then it's a downright deal.

After reading his review, it didn't sound like J Gold and I went to the same restaurant. I liked it, but had several gripes. I found the service to be pushy, the first time we went we ordered 2-3 courses each assuming portions were small based upon the waiter's responses. The next few times, we had the same experience with each waiter but ordered more appropriately.
The pastas we had were all good, but incredibly over sauced. The gnocchi, I had was soft and mushy, the risotto dry and sticky.
I liked the room and still enjoyed the pasta, but it could be a lot better.

I haven't been, but do want to try it. But, I'm struck by your comment about the pasta being oversauced. From looking at the pix, that also was my impression of a number of the dishses. Really good housemade pasta, as this apparently is, benefits from a moderate touch with the sauce; drowning is bad.

There might be an argument that over saucing is a matter of style - American / Italian comfort food vs. traditional Italian, but for a restaurant reviewer not to give it even a mention I think is a serious oversight.

Yes, this is true. I often have to specify easy on the sauce in most Italian restaurants in the US. In Italy you will not find pasta drowning in sauce like here

That about sums up our one trip there too.

these old thread to still hold true:

It's a downtown standby, assuming I can find parking on 4th. There's plentiful sauce, so if you dont' want it, eat your pasta accordingly. I like sauce, unless we're talking about BBQ.

Speaking of Downtown and Downtown-adjacent Italian carbs, I've yet to try Anima, but I was never a fan of All'Angolo's pizza, so...
