Geoduck in Tampa Bay?

Manderley Jan 19, 2014 04:16 PM

I saw Geoduck in a tank at ABC Seafood in St Pete a couple of years ago, but didn't notice it until after we had already eaten and were on our way out. I've been kicking myself that i missed the chance to try it. Does anyone know of anyplace in Tampa Bay that serves Geoduck at least now and then? It's still high on my Bucket List.

Do you mean in a form different from or quantity more substantial than mirugai sushi or nigiri?

I'm not familiar with tampa sorry.

In Toronto, geoduck is on the menu at every high end cantonese restaurant, so thats a good place to start.

Thanks for your response, but Florida is not the place to go for Chinese food (or pizza, for that matter). We actually do have 3 "authentic" Chinese places, like the ones you'd find in Chinatown in NYC; it was at one of these three that i saw the geoduck, in one of their tanks. (One whole wall of tanks with live seafood, you order and they pluck it fresh out of the tank and cook it for you). The rest of the places don't even come close to NY-style takeout. Reminds me of going to a Chinese restaurant in Mansfield, Ohio, when i was in college. We ordered; asked for duck sauce and mustard, we were brought a bottle of Heinz Ketchup and a bottle of French's Mustard. (they had actually never even heard of duck sauce).

Maybe it's time for a trip to Toronto! ;)

Heh, I'm Chinese and have never heard of duck sauce either!

I don't know the sushi scene in Tampa, but the best south of the Skyway Bridge is Vizen in Sarasota.

A friend recently told me that MD Oriental Market in Brandon either had it, or was expecting it soon. But it's a market, not a restaurant. You'd have to wrestle with that alien beast yourself. ;-)

I guess my question would be... if you saw it at ABC in St. Pete, call them and see if they still have it. It's definitely on of the most authentic Chinese restaurants around. If they have it, that is an easy solution!

i did call them periodically after seeing it there, but the answer was always no. i was hoping to find someplace that had it at least on a semi-regular basis. i will continue to try, though. thanks for your response.
