Hi,

I'll be in Peoria AZ next month for about 4 days. Any recs for where to eat? Anything from cheap eats to fine dining, as long as the food is good! Will drive to Phoenix and other nearby areas also for "not to miss" places. I'm coming from the Northwest.

We'll be staying with relatives at Trilogy at Vistancia in Peoria, but can drive to nearby areas.

We are open to all suggestions from pizza to Thai to Southwest cuisine, as long as the food is chow worthy. We'll be looking for breakfast, lunch and dinner choices.

Thanks everyone for your recommendations and for the welcome to your beautiful area!

I can second the rec on Cucina Tagliani which was mentioned earlier. I've been to the original at 59th and Bell several times. I can't speak for the one slightly closer to you. I was also going to recommend Mike's Grill, which is an independent Greek-Italian place. However, I just found this article when searching for the address:

http://www.azcentral.com/ent/dining/articles/0215mikes.html

I haven't been there in a bit.

I've been to the lunch buffet at Maharaja Palace Indian many times. It's good, though not the best Indian in town. However, there's no doubt it will be closest to you. Just a little east in the same plaza of the Wal-Mart located at the SE corner of 59th Ave/Bell.

I live in Peoria, there is not much here but chains. I do really really like Cucina Tagliani, very good lasagna.

8349 W Bell Rd (next to Ihop)
(623) 412-2670

There is also a bbq place we enjoy called AZ bbq, it is next to the Harley dealer, on Paradise. It's not killer bbq but its good and inexpensive. Their cowbowy beans are very good and we like the pulled pork.

A chain we like is Firebirds, on Paradise as well, more upscale than the above. They should have a menu online.

There's a ton of stuff, above and beyond the chains. I hardly notice them anymore. And all the valley cities run together, so it's not like you'll notice transitioning from one to the next. Here are my west side rec's. For downtown or Scottsdale, just search the boards for what you're after.

Do you want ... Italian? There's North, for upscale, as well as Bella Luna in Litchfield.

Do you want ... fine wine, upscale American? There's Sportsman's, which is right next to North in Arrowhead. Or Park Wines, next to the Wigwam resort, for wine & small plates.

How about Indian? Maharajah Palace. German? Haus Murphy's, downtown Glendale. Vietnamese? Song Hau. South American? Mi Cocina Mi Pais, don't miss the tamales. Thai? Chanpen Thai.

People write off the west valley as a culinary wasteland. I say, you just have to look a little harder. Enjoy your visit!

I am not a fan of North. I went once for lunch and it was dreadful. I won't go back. Maybe an isolated experience? I don't know and don't want to risk it.

Vistancia is faaaarr! In-N-Out Burger is at 83rd Ave and Bell! Awesome burgers.

Firebirds is pretty good.

I'd really like to try the Thai place that Seth recommended.

Pizza? Rosati's is pretty good Chicago style. 67th and Union Hills I think. It's a take out place.

Welcome to the Valley!

Leslie,

I would suggest Chanpen Thai at 51st Avenue and Thunderbird in Glendale.

I had a wonderful meal there (and subsequent ones as well). The food is excellent. Try the Chicken Satay.

You can read my review by clicking on the link below.

And welcome to Arizona!

I went to Chanpen, last Saturday Lunch.

I had the Larb Salmon, which was a special. The salmon filet caught me a little off guard. It seemed like it was precooked. I like salmon to be as fresh as possible, moist, and cooked medium. It wasn't bad, just unexpected, dry on the outside. Overall, the dish was still very good.

Service was on the slow side. One waitress for the whole place, and it got a bit busy for her.

Another good rec for way out West is the White Eagle Deli http://www.whiteeagledeli.com

I live just down the street from the Peoria Sports Complex. Dillon's which is located just west of the Thunderbird exit off of the 101 has very good BBQ. Cucina Tagliani which was mentioned earlier has good American Italian food. They have two locations. The original is at 59th and Bell on the NE corner. The other one is next to the IHOP on Bell just east of the 101. Neither of these are chains.
