I remember hearing about a smallish moderately priced Italian restaurant in central/southern Scottsdale (for some reason, I think it was east of Scottsdale Road), but I can't find the name anywhere. And I didn't turn up anything with a search. Does it ring any bells with any of you?

(Also, still interested in any further homey, girly brunch places.)

Although it is not central/southern Scottsdale, the best low-key, moderately priced, great food Italian restaurant is Arriverderci at Thunderbird and Scottsdale Road. The ambiance is that of a small, family-owned trattoria in Italy, full bar, warm and pleasant service. The gnocchi are wonderful, eggplant melanzina excellent and the osso bucco is melt-in-your-mouth (when they haven't run out of it). Entrees are less than $20. It's a small place on the southwest corner of the intersection. Enjoy!

I'll second the recommendation for Arrivederci. It's a terrific little restaurant with friendly service and excellent food. And, yes, the osso bucco is really good. So is the spaghetti and meatballs, a usually pedestrian dish that we would never have ordered if it hadn't come so highly recommended by a regular. Arrivederci is always on our list of restaurants to visit when we come out to Phoenix.

Don't forget about Guiseppe right next door to Arrevederci. Family run for a long time in Phoenix.

I stopped in last night with a friend to give this place a try. We did like the place, warm and friendly, and the service was excellent.

The food was average at best. I had the osso bucco and it was fair. They also had switched from veal to pork! I gave it a try but suggested to the waiter that I rather have the veal. Maybe it was a off night. I'll give it one more try.

Perhaps Restaurant Molise? I recall reading good things about it on Chowhound a few years ago, but the one time I attempted to eat there, they were all booked up for the evening. It's in the same strip mall as AZ Wine and Atlas World Bistro, at approximately Scottsdale and Oak, east side of the road.
