The only reliable hot dog place I know of in Dallas is Wild About Harry's on Knox. I'm specifically looking for Chicago and New York style hot dogs (sorry, I don't get chili dogs). I'm familiar with Kuby's, Sonic, Wrigleyville (closed), and I don't have enough tatoos and life insurance to go to the Angry Dog in Deep Ellum so what other places are there? I've even resorted going to the stands that are outside of Home Depot.

I haven't tried the hot dogs at Bagelstein's (Coit & Arapaho); but with the Vienna Beef signs in the windows, I'm guessing they're at least better than what you're getting at Home Depot.

Give Harry's on Knox a try (across from Crate & Barrel - about 3 doors west of McKinney). They have a wide variety of dogs, but I like the Chicago-style. My father-in-law, a native from Chicago and hot dog snob, gives it a thumbs up.

Plus, really good frozen custard.

I've been in the Dallas area over 20 years and, sadly, it's difficult to find good ready-to-eat hotdogs, unlike in NY where they're everywhere. It was too bad the Wild About Harry's on Preston/Forest closed after I was there only once. I don't get down to the original on Knox very often. A couple of places I do go to when I'm out and about and need a hotdog fix are one of the Wienerschnitzel's, but you've got to specify ALL BEEF. There's one at Coit & 15th in Plano and at Greenville & Bethany in Allen. There's also a little shed in the parking lot on the north side of Arapahoe, just west of Hillcrest, that has good Chicago, German & NY-style beef hotdogs. But most reliable to me is getting a package of either Hebrew National or Nathan's Bigger-Than-The-Bun style, and grilling them at home with deli mustard and lots of steamed sauerkraut.
