There are numerous Sicilian recipes that call for wild fennel which is not the same as the common bulb fennel. Any ideas if and where it can be bought?
I've never seen it in a store. Though I have heard tell of old Sicilians collecting it in highway median strips. I'd just add some crushed fennel seeds to cultivated fronds and bulbs. Here's Arthur Schwartz on the subject:
