Chinatown restaurant with large group?
I am taking a group of 25+Boy Scouts to NYC, and would like to have dinner in Chinatown and/or Little Italy. We would need a place that is large enough for 25, will take a reservation, and on a Boy Scout budget (Boy Scouts are thrifty). Any suggestions?
Look at Congee or Rubirosa.
At Congee, you can request/reserve the downstairs area for private (or semi-private) dining. Food is basically gloppy, American-Chinese fare. Not bad, but generally spectacularly mediocre. And price is right.
Or, if you don't want to do Chinese, you might look at Rubirosa for classic red-checkered tablecloth Italian (without the actual tablecloths). The restaurant has a back area that can be cordoned off for your group. A bit pricier than Congee, however.
In this case Congee might be perfect- odds are the boy scouts won't split hairs over authenticity, and simply reading over the menu options will be entertaining. (Sizzling frog and duck's blood entrees would make my nephew giggle at least)
OP: the huge menu includes many less ambitious offerings as well
